The Serdes implements 8b/10b decoder. Data and identified 10-bit special K codes are converted from 10 bits to 8 bits. My understanding is that, when special 10-bit K codes are received, the special K codes are translated to 8-bit values. However, the decoder also checks for invalid 10-bit codes, and asserts error signal (i8b/10b kerr flag) when invalid codes are detected. Thus the 8-bit data output by decoder will indicate error (no valid 10-bit code received.)
