Hi TI Teams,

We have some question about the drive capability by TUSB211, the details are as below:

1) We plan to add a TUSB211 at both ends of the 5-meters long Type-C to Type-C cable (male head to male head). Can the TUSB211 support  this length?

2) If not, how long can a TUSB211 drive? Or whether the 5m length wire can be driven by setting the position of TUSB211?

3) Is there any suggestion recommended for the 5-meters long Type-C to Type-C cable (male head to male head)? I also found a picture of the maximum length of USB 2.0 Redrive support on a post.

    Hi Lumina,

    1. TUSB211 can support up to ~3 meter pre-channel or ~2m post channel depending on the USB2 TX performance.
    2. I would recommend for the customer to look at the TUSB216I designed to improve the signal quality of High-Speed USB signals by more optimized settings. It supports up to 5m cable length. It would be desirable to place as close as possible to the connector.
    3. Note that they will want to start with the redriver configured at the lowest settings to prevent overdriving the signals.

    Hi Josh,

    Thanks for your reply. Now we also want to confirm that if it possible to add TUSB216 to only one side of the Type-C cable, without the I2C communication. We also noticed that the price of TUSB216 is much higher than that of TUSB211 and TUSB212, and we are looking for a better cost-effiective solution for our requirement.

    Hi Lumina,

    As I mentioned above, TUSB211 might not match your expected cable length. Actually, the max distance would also depend on the USB data source drive strength and signal quality. In most cases, the 5m/3m case is the max distance with TUSB212. USB212 has greater redriving capability than TUSB211. Note that TUSB216I is an updated device of the TUSB212 or TUSB211 with P2P compatibility and could boost performance even more, especially in longer cable cases.
