Hi,

1 a)If we use SM bus for programming the redriver(DS320PR1601) instead of EEPROM, where will be the data saved?

    b)Don't we need to program every time we turn on the add in card module?

2 Similarly for clock buffer CDCDB800, we can enable the clk out either by enabling the SMB enable bit(OUT_EN_CLK) or via OE# hardware pins.

    a)If I intend to use SM Bus register instead of hardware pins, will the register setting retain after power off?

    Greetings,

    I can answer the first question. We can assign this to the clock and timing group to respond to the 2nd question.

    As long as we do not turn power off to the card, then register content changed by SMBus interface will be saved. Even when we enable PD(Power Down ) pins changes in register content are saved.

    Most TI clock buffers including the CDCDB800 do not have nonvolatile storage, so if SMBus control is used then the register settings would not be retained after the buffer loses power. I happen to be quite familiar with clock and timing products but in the future it's best to create separate threads for clocking parts to get the best possible support, because they are managed by another product line. We have reassigned this thread to them in case they have other comments.

    Hi,

    If the redriver is programmed via SM Bus register, will the data be saved in these registers if we turn off the power of add in card?

    Is this for this reason in DS320PR1601EVM , EEPROM used?

    1). Register settings will be lost when power is turned off.

    2). Using MODE pin and EEPROM register settings will  be automatically restored after the power comes back on.
