DS90UB960-Q1EVM: The EVM is not detected in ALP

Part Number: DS90UB960-Q1EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ALP, USB2ANY

I have my DS90UB960-Q1EVM.When  Analog Launch pad is launched..

I could not view/detect the EVM.

At the same time,if  Aardvark is connected J9 connector(External I2C )  and launch ALP I could view  see both USB2any and Aardvark. 'but If I select either of them the ALP tool does not respond

  • Hello,

    1. Have you downloaded ALP and the latest ALP profiles from https://www.ti.com/tool/ALP?
    2. Have you tried connecting your computer to the mini-USB port (J37) on the EVM and then running the ALP software?
    3. If you are connecting to J9 on the EVM, then are you using an external USB2ANY module?
    4. Can you send a screenshot of what ALP looks like when you say that the ALP tool does not respond?

    3. If you are connecting to J9 on the EVM, then are you using an external USB2ANY module? yes If I connect Aardvark the only I can see devices connected

  • Is your computer connected to the mini-USB port (J37) and the the I2C pins (J9) at the same time?

When ALP powers-up, it sends multiple I2C read commands on the I2C bus. If there are multiple Masters on the same I2C bus sending conflicting I2C commands, then ALP may crash.

Can you try only connecting your computer to the mini-USB port (J37) and disconnect the aardvark on J9, to see if ALP works now? If it doesn't work, can you send a screenshot of what you see?

  • If USB only connected .I don't see any device detected  .Refer snapshot.

    Note:

If connect Aardvark then only USB2any and Aardvark are detected .

  • If USB only connected .I don't see any device detected  .Refer snapshot.

If Aardvark is connected, I can see both USB2any and aardvark. Now If I select Aardvark no response But

if  USB2any  is selected, I can see the SERIALIZER (detected as 953 though in design SER used is 933) connected (for example PORT2) Refer snapshot

  • If you see nothing in the USB-Only connection, then that means that ALP cannot communicate with the 960 chip through I2C. The 960 EVM board has an on-board MSP430 that translates UART and I2C transactions between the PC and the 960 chip.

It's possible that maybe the ESD diode on the UART bus is damaged or even the MSP430 chip is damaged, which is why the mini-USB port connection is not working. Do you have access to an external USB2ANY module that can be used instead?

In your second screenshot, I am a little confused about your setup. Are you connecting a 933 EVM to the 960 EVM? Or are you connecting a 933 camera module to the 960 EVM?

If you are connecting a 933 device, then the valid IDX address should not be 0x30.

Your screenshot also seems to indicate that the 960 EVM is in CSI mode, but it should be in RAW mode.

If you did properly set the S1 switch to one of the RAW modes, but ALP is showing CSI mode instead, then it seems ALP is not actually detecting anything and is in its demo mode. Under the "Preferences" window, can you check to see if the Demo Mode window is checked?

If it is checked, then that means that ALP is operating in Demo Mode.
