Most USB Type C Port Protector provides ESD protection on D+/D- USB lines which will protect against transient over voltage but not steady state short to Vbus.
TPD6S300A USB Type C Port Protector addresses steady state short to Vbus for CC pins but not for D+/D- pins. I believe that short to Vbus is likely on D+/D- USB lines as well due to fault cable, cable puncture or water ingress.
Is there a USB Type C Port Protector that address steady state short to Vbus for both D+/D- & CC pins ?
Hi,
The reason we advertise CC and SBU protection is because those pins are the closest in proximity to the VBUS pins, and are the most likely to be damaged in a faulty cable scenario.
Regardless, the TPD6S300A can actually support short to vbus on the D+/D- by connecting those pins in replacement of the SBU pins.
Let me know if any further questions.
Thanks,
Matt
