SN75ALS171: UART star topology

Part Number: SN75ALS171
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN65LBC170, THVD1500

Hi expert,

My customer used out MCU UART and want to use star topology for UART by USING SN75ALS171.

However, this device can only support 0-70C, my customer want to a industrial grade device support same function.

Could you kindly recommend to me?

BR

  • Emma,

One of our engineers will get back to you by end of business 01/19/2024.

  • Hi Emma,

The device you referenced doesn't look like it calls out a maximum data rate so I can't be sure but it looks like the closest device to what you are asking is SN65LBC170 which is a 3x TX/RX RS485 half duplex transceiver supporting up to 85C.

  • Bobby,

Thanks for your reply, then which part do you recommend for a 3x TX/RX RS485 half duplex transceiver supporting up to 85C.

  • The SN65LBC170 will work.

But a cheaper and more robust solution would be three modern, single-channel transceivers like the THVD1500 or one of its many variants.

  • Hi Emma,

which part do you recommend for a 3x TX/RX RS485 half duplex transceiver supporting up to 85C.

Only option we have is the SN65LBC170.

As Clemen's pointed out, if you wanted something newer (modern) you would need to use 3x single channel transceivers like THVD1500. The downside is size and more discrete parts.
