DP83849IFVS-EVK: DP83849IFVS-EVK cable connector issue

Part Number: DP83849IFVS-EVK

Hi forum!

I would like to reopen the below mentioned Query regarding the Cable issue..

https://e2e.ti.com/support/interface-group/interface/f/interface-forum/1308733/dp83849ifvs-evk-fiber-optic-connector-cable-issue

The DP83849EVK is not properly working when i test with one of the suggested cable in it's datasheet..

when i fully inserted the cable to the transceiver module which is present in the EVK it is not working (means the cable is not detecting..)and if i connect in half way it is working(the cable is detecting).. what could be the reason??

and it is working with a random single mode cable.. now what could be the reason ?? i'm totally confused with it's operation..

Best regards,

Tex

  • Hi Tex,

Could you send a picture of your full setup?

Referring to the previous thread, are you using different connectors for each LP MDI?

In my experience, the connector / SFP module used at each endpoint must match, otherwise there may be incompatibilities with the fiber termination / wavelength scheme.

    Thank you,

    Evan

  • Thanks for the reply Evan Mayhew!

In my experience, the connector / SFP module used at each endpoint must match, otherwise there may be incompatibilities with the fiber termination / wavelength scheme.

    This make sense!

Actually our DP83849IFVS-EK consists Multimode 1300nm (62.5/125 um)connector and link partner consists Single Mode 1310nm (9/125 um) connector

I'm understood that this will be the issue..

can you also please share your valuable experience in this type of connector issues like what are all the parameters we should consider to be matched if we implement 2 different connectors.. we can only implement both sides same connector ?

    Thanks and regards,

    Tex

  • Hi Tex,

Unfortunately I have not validated any setups with mismatched SFP connectors..

If you would like to test with different modules at each endpoint, I suggest matching the advertised speed and wavelength of the connector as the main criteria. Otherwise, I recommend using the same connector at each endpoint.

    Thank you,

    Evan

  • Understood! thanks for your valuable suggestion..

I recommend using the same connector at each endpoint.

    I'll try this!

    Regards,

    Tex
