DP83867E: DP83867IRRGZT Compatible with the Link-PP LPJG16314A4NL RJ-45 w/Integrated magnetics

Part Number: DP83867E
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SK-AM62B-P1, SK-AM62B

Hi,

I'm hoping this inconsistency can be cleared up.  I would like to bring your attention to the following forum question from more than 5 years ago below...

  https://e2e.ti.com/support/interface-group/interface/f/interface-forum/745452/dp83867e-link-pp-rj-45-compatibility

In this forum question it was recommended NOT to use the LINK-PP LPJG16314A4NL RJ-45 due to the center taps being connected together.  We are doing a new design with the AM623x (AM6232) and the DP83867IRRGZT (PHY).  We have purchased the AM62x EVK's (SK-AM62B and SK-AM62B-P1) which use the combination of the AM62x, DP83867 and Link PP LPJG16314A4NL RJ-45 w/Integrated magnetics.  Can I get an explanation why this NOT recommended RJ-45 connector is being used 5 years later on recently released EVK's?

Regards,

Davey

  • Hi Davey,

We can reach out to the respective team regarding this, but we still strongly recommend that customers do not use center tap shorted magnetics with DP83867, as the device was characterized with this configuration (center tap isolated) in mind. If customers use center tap shorted magnetics, we cannot warranty functionality as this is a violation of our datasheet guidelines.

    Sincerely,

    Gerome
