DS92LX1622: BIST_ERR register inaccessible, as i2c doesn't work after setting BIST_EN

Part Number: DS92LX1622

i2c works fine until I set the BIST_EN bit (in the BIST register, address 0x24).  Then i2c transactions fail (meaning, among other things, I can't see the BIST_ERR register).

Is this expected behavior?  Or am I doing something wrong?

    Hi Pat,

    Could you elaborate on what you mean by "among other things?" Is the only register you are not able to read the BIST_ERR register? Or is all of the device's registers?

    Hi Nikolas -

    By "among other things" I mean inability to access any i2c register.  All i2c transactions end with the DS92LX1622 not responding at all, i.e., i2c "NACK" instead of "ACK".  Is this known behavior?  If not, can you recommend a debugging direction?

    Hi Pat,

    Thank you for the additional context - this is not expected behavior. Some follow-up requests:

    • Do all I2C transactions end in a NACK only occur after setting the BIST_EN bit? Or have you tried setting bits from other registers and witnessed the same NACKing behavior?
    • Could you please share with me a schematic?

    Based on this information, we can then discuss a more focused debugging direction.
