SN75161B: SN75161B status has changed from EOL to active on the web site. What is the situation?

Part Number: SN75161B

Folks,

I'm battling with how to cope with a new design (*please* don't say we should ditch GPIB) in the wake of you making SN75161 obsolete.

However, when I visited the 161 page on the TI web site today, it has changed from end of life to active. What os the situation? Is this a glitch on thw web site or have you reversed the decision to stop manufacturing?

Thanks.

  • Hi Robert,

I'm currently checking with my product marketing engineer to verify the status of this device.

I suspect this may be a glitch since the device is in an out dated process technology and TI is shutting down the FABs that use this process technology.

  • Hi Robert,

My product marketing contact got back to me...

Looks like TI is still trying to finalize the list of devices that are going EOL. This means I will probably need to get back to you on the decision for this device. For now this device will remain in the active status. I believe if this device is on the list of devices to escape EOL, TI will issue another PCN to customers stating we will continue manufacturing the device.

We are going to put a NRND (Not recommended for new design) tag on this device while active though.

  • Robert,

The response I received is that the below original part numbers will be active moving forward.

    • SN75161BDWR
    • SN75161BN
    • SN75161BDW
    • SN75161BN-NG

Our marketing team will still likely place an NRND tag on them and we still recommend you look for alternative solutions in the future.

We are still planning on shutting down the old Fab sites like I pointed out in my first post.....
