We are designing a system which will use 100BASE-T1 communication between units, but wish to have an upgrade path at the slave end which does not require a hardware change at the master end. So the question is, if we fit a 1000BASE-T1 PHY at the master end, will it still communicate at 100Mb/s if the source end uses the slower part? Or to put it another way, does the DP83TG720S-Q1 auto negotiate down to the lower the comms link speed?
