TCAN11623-Q1: Requirement of Common mode choke

Part Number: TCAN11623-Q1

Hi Team,

I'm using TCAN11623-Q1 for CAN Bus communication in my current project. I would like to ask whether it is recommended to add a common mode choke on my CAN Bus for EMI/EMC tests. And if I don't add the choke what are the circumstances in which I will face issues in  EMI / EMC tests?

Thank you for your response in advance

  • Vishwa,

A CMC is always recommended with a CAN transceiver because not only does it help with emissions from the transceiver, but noise from the CAN bus to the transceiver. The CMC filters high-frequency noise and can help with voltage transients from the CAN bus. So if you expect the application to have a large amount of noise from other devices, like SMPS, oscillators, MCUs, motors, etc. then I would highly recommend placing a CMC on the CAN bus pins.

    Regards,
