DS90UB929-Q1: configure the 929 to go fetch the EDID in external local EEPROM

Please clarify which option is to use in case of U3 chip is mounted or connected from J24 connector

For each option how to configure the signals MODE_SEL0 / MODE_SEL1

Logan, Indeed we're in the case "local eeprom edid" in the ppt. which translate into the mode_sel pin that EDID_SEL should be 1, correct ?

S1 : MODE_SEL0 = 5

S6 : MODE_SEL1 = 5

We decided to put an EEPROM on U3 and to configure it by I2C via the connector J24.

               I guess you will have to turn to the I2C eeprom vendor for this. What should be seeable by the I2c HDMI bus should be the same as what you programmed previously : how you need to write it inside to be readback as expected I don’t know, but I wouldn’t expect much difference in the order of bytes ( unless you have to write backward for it to be read back in the correct order.)

Agree with your response. The act of actually flashing the EEPROM is specific to the EEPROM device itself, generally requires holding one of its pins low/high. Generally you'd use a EEPROM flashing tool and SW to flash then verify the writes were successful. 

If customer is using 929 or similar EVM, they might consider simply using the SRAM for their desired solution if above is too complicated.

We tested the External EDID mounted on the board and even with S2 at mode #5 and S6 at mode #1, the ALP shows that the board is still initialized with internal EDID

Could you help us to fix this problem ?

Second point, when the EDID mode is set to External  manually, the HDMI timings are correctly applied only if I disconnect / reconnect the HDMI connexion.

How we can bypass this issue ?

I don’t believe that marked drop down box updates to reflect the actual strap. Can you provide a register dump after power up for further review?

EDID  load from a slave device only happens on plug in, not on the fly.
