TCAN4550EVM: The current issue with tcan4550evm in sleep mode

Part Number: TCAN4550EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMV331-Q1, TCAN4550

Tool/software:

Hi team,

Currently, the development board is only connected to the power supply, with no other circuits connected.

Upon startup, I measured 15mA. After four minutes,

it enters sleep mode, and I measured 10mA.

How can I reduce it to the sleep mode target of 45µA?

  • Hello Hsinyu,

The sleep mode current spec you are referring to is only for the TCAN4550 device, and not the EVM.  The EVM has a dual channel LDO with one channel controlled by the TCAN4550's INH pin, so it is disabled during sleep mode removing the VIO rail to the TCAN4550 device.  However, the other channel is supplying 5V even when the TCAN4550 goes into sleep mode and this 5V rail is used for other devices on the board such as the LEDs and the LMV331-Q1 comparator that creates a low voltage version of the INH signal.

The additional current is due to the draw from the 5V rail and you can disable this 5V rail by placing a shunt jumper between pins 11 and 12 of header J2.

    Regards,

    Jonathan
