TCAN1145-Q1: How to set the normal can transceiver and the can transceiver timing?

Part Number: TCAN1145-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi AE,

I only saw the Can FD transceiver timing in Tcan1145.

Could you help provide the Can2.0B standard transceiver timing in Tcan1145?

How to set the Can2.0B protocol in Tcan1145?

  • Hi Bruce.

The bit time variation of this device is relatively fixed regardless of data rate, so the worst case parameters of 2Mbps (40ns variation) will also apply to lower data rates used by CAN 2.0B. The datasheet values here simply match the requirements listed the ISO standard. This standard allows for more variation for slower devices, so the values are not consistent between 2Mbps and 5Mbps. This variation based on data rate is not expected in the actual edve.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

  • Hi AE,

The CAN 2.0B does not define specific standards, but we have captured the CAN 2.0B waveform.

Could you help confirm whether it meets the standard ?

  • Hi AE,

The baud rate is 500K HZ, Thanks!

  • Hi Bruce,

The timings here don't look correct for a 250kbps (500k Hz baud) as the bit times are not an integer value of the bit time for this data rate (5us). This is likely due to the clock of the system not actually running a true 500k Hz clock source but something close to it.

In order to evaluate our transceiver I recommend using a waveform generator to input a square wave on the TXD pin. This removes timing variances of the system from the test to ensure the transceiver is operating as expected.
