Tool/software:
Hi, Team
We use DS160PT801 ReTimer to design PCIE X8 Add-in card.
We'd like to know when system BIOS doesn't setup x4, x4 bifurcation function? the DS160PT801 can setup x4, x4 bifurcation through EEPROM or strap on pin v23.
Our EEPROM is loading DS160PT801_4x4.
We had finished the DS160PT801 for PCIE x8 gen 4 products.
The add-in card can work normal, but it can't be bifurcated by itself through EEPROM.
Or through pin v23 add 10k to GND?
Please help solve problem.
Thanks
perry
Hi Perry,
We're looking into this and will get back to you soon.
Best,
Lucas
Greetings,
Am i correct in saying you want DS160PT801 to convert 2 X X4 into one X8 for your system bios? Can you please provide a block diagram.
Regards, Nasser
HI,
The DS160PT801 datasheet says it may support 2x4 bifurcation.
We'd like to know whether it can be bifurcated into x4, x4 link width when system run in x8 link width.
Thanks
perry
Hi Perry,
This cannot be done. Part does not act like a switch where we have X4 on one side and X8 on the other side.

HI,
In datasheet, page 23
There is a section to explain: "The eight lanes in the DS160PT801 can be bifurcated into two x4 to support different system topologies."
What is meaning?
perry
Hi Perry,
This means either you can use the part in 2 X4 configuration or 1 X8. Device cannot take 1X8 and then provide 2 X4.
