For I2C mode, the initial setting for EQ and DC_BOOST is based on the resistor setup of those pins. So if you were to leave both the pins floating at device start-up/reset, you would start with EQ level 3, and DC_BOOST level mid. From there, you would be able to modify the values of these pins/registers via I2C.
Typically, we recommend keeping EQ at level 0 or 1, since level 3 can cause over-compensation or disconnects.
