TLK10232: Unable to use TLK10232 Data Switch to establish XFI to KR link

Part Number: TLK10232
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS110DF111

Tool/software:

I'm having difficulty establishing a link using the TLK10232 internal data switch. I'm attempting to convert XFI to 10GBASE-KR ethernet by bringing XFI in on one HS channel and configuring the PHY to switch to other HS channel.

I have each HS channel configured as follows:

  • Operating Mode: 10G-KR
  • Lookback Mode: Transceiver
  • Ref Clock Freq: 156.25 MHz
  • Serial Data Rate: 10312.5 Mbps
  • Enable TX
  • Enable RX
    • Enable ENTRACK
  • TX Switch Cfg
    • Disable pin switch feature
    • Data Selection for TX Data Switch Source Input: Alternate channel HS data
    • TX Data Switch Trigger Condition for ON/OFF Condition: OFF: Wait for OFF Trigger, ON: Any data
  • Link Training: Disable
  • KR FEC Control: Disable
  • Auto Negotiation: Disable
  • Hi Daniel,

I recommend breaking up the signal chain into smaller sections and getting each portion working individually before focusing on the full signal chain.

    1. First transmit to the XFI channel input and confirm the TLK can obtain lock.
    2. Use loopback on the XFI channel to confirm link is up in both directions.
    3. Transmit to the 10G-KR channel input and confirm the TLK can obtain lock.
    4. Use loopback on the 10G-KR channel to confirm link is up in both directions.
    5. Use the TX data switch to enable the full link on both sides.

I'd also like to check, do you intend to enable link training and auto-negotiation on the 10G-KR link? If not, a much simpler device like DS110DF111 can likely be used to convert 10G-KR to SFI.

    Best,

    Lucas
