TMUXHS4412: AC Coupling Cap for SSD Module related Design - Feedback

Part Number: TMUXHS4412

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

I'm currently working with two PCBs: PCB1 (Host, marked in green) containing the CPU, and PCB2 (marked in yellow) containing the SSD module connected via a U.2 connector. A TMUXHS4412 multiplexer/demultiplexer is positioned between the U.2 connector on PCB2 I've attached a detailed diagram of the multi-board connection setup for reference.

On PCB1, the CPU’s Tx lines have AC coupling capacitors, and these connect through the harness to PCB2, where the SSD module (with its internal AC coupling caps on the Rx lines) and the TMUXHS4412 are located.

My question is: Do I need to add additional AC coupling capacitors on the PCIe lines between the TMUXHS4412 Mux/DeMux IC? I’ve reviewed the datasheet, but it’s unclear whether AC coupling caps are necessary for SSD modules in this setup. TI does suggest adding AC caps, but I’d like to confirm if they are essential in this specific configuration.

Speed - PCIe Gen 3/ PCIe Gen 4.
