Hi,
I have connected the TVS Diode and Fuse with ISO1044 CAN for IC protection.
I want to confirm one point. Should the TVS Diodes (EC7, EC9, EC10) need to connect after the Fuse (RT7, RT9) as shown in the schematic shared (Connector---> Fuse---> TVS Diode---> TO ISO1044 IC) or Shall I need to connect the TVS Diode next to the connector and then to Fuse (Connector---> TVS Diode---> Fuse---> TO ISO1044 IC)?
Thanks
Hi Aakash,
I would recommend the placement you have of the TVS diode after the Fuse.
The reason behind this is the fuse will open for any longer transients that the TVS diode cannot handle, if the TVS diode was at the connector it would fail short if there was an overvoltage event it can't handle.
There are some TVS diodes that might be able to handle high peak current transients for long durations directly at the connector but they will have much higher capacitance values and are more for power line protection.
Regards,
Sebastian
