DP83TC817S-Q1: CLKOUT for MCU clocking?

Part Number: DP83TC817S-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CDCE6214

Tool/software:

Hello

general question related to CLKOUT pin of our Phys.

can CLKOUT to be used for clocking for MCU used in the system? Or is CLKOUT used as reference clock only?

The MCU needs 100MHz so i need to 4x CLKOUT or can I generate 100MHz internally in the PHY?

As this is a SE signal I need a clockgenerator like CDCE6214?

Any experience with EMI if this is used for MCU clocking?

  • Hi Martin,

CLKOUT can be used as reference clock input to another PHY for our 100Mbps PHYs (DP83TC812/817). Jitter requirements are tighter on 1000Mbps PHY so the same is not true for DP83TG720/721. CLKOUT specifications (rise/fall, jitter) are given in Timing Requirements section of datasheet, you may check here.

We do not have a way to generate 100Mhz on CLKOUT pin unfortunately. Please use external clock, the clock generator team can help you select one.

    Thanks,

    David
