DP83822I: Transformer-less Configuration MLT-3 Register Setting

Part Number: DP83822I

Tool/software:

Dear Team,

My customer is considering to use the DP83822I under transformer-less configuration. In case of the transformer-less configuration, writing following extra register to make transmitter of the DP83822I supports the transformer-less application is needed according to below E2E.

Register<0x0404> = 0x0024

DP83822I: Configuration without Magnetics and RJ45

If Register<0x0404> = 0x0020 under the transformer-less configuration, what will happen?

When "0x0020" is specified as reduced MLT-3, while when "0x0024" is specified as full MLT-3, is it possible that the signal amplitude of the MLT-3 is lower than expected in a situation where the value of register 0x0404 is operating at 0x0020 with a transformer-less connection?

Best Regards,

Koshi Ninomiya

  • Hi Ninomiya-san,

When "0x0020" is specified as reduced MLT-3, while when "0x0024" is specified as full MLT-3, is it possible that the signal amplitude of the MLT-3 is lower than expected in a situation where the value of register 0x0404 is operating at 0x0020 with a transformer-less connection?

Yes, this can be true in transformer-less connection so signal integrity can become an issue. Therefore, we suggest customers to use full MLT-3 when they implement transformerless connection.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

    Best,
