TUSB1104: SLS Debug

Id like to see if I2C communication can take place. Which pins should I connected SDA and SCL to? I don’t see a designated I2C connectors.

We have earlier shared jic file of pin-strap mode for unstable lane i.e. usb32dc_a10socdb_fmcusb32g22_con1_lane1.jic for redriver tuning. There might be possible due to unstable lane you are facing enumeration issue. have you checked both orientation of type-C cable at FMC side? Please note that device will enumerate with only one type C orientation.

Also make sure device driver installed properly. You may find it at fmc_g22_demo/windows_driver/windows10_64bit/ folder.

Download stable lane jic file (usb32dc_a10socdb_fmcusb32g22_con1_lane2.jic) for pin-strap mode from below link. Please test and share result.

You should be able to see SLS USB DEVICE in device manager if enumeration successful.

In order to use I²C mode for redriver tuning, you will need to access the I²C registers via Nios II software. We have provided the steps to prepare a Nios II project for updating the required I²C registers in the document i2c_mode_fmc_g22_demo/Creating_Project_in_Eclipse.pdf.

Please note that to create the Nios II software project, you will need to downgrade Quartus software to version 23.4, as Nios II support has been removed in Quartus 25.1.1. Once Quartus 23.4 installed, perform NIOS II related settings as motioned in document <quartus_installation_path>\23.4\nios2eds\bin\README

I get the following errors when following the direction the uploading the jic file.

My setup diagram also looks different even though the same directions are followed.

I didn't have these issues in version 25.1.1

1) reinstall Quartus 23.4 (make sure Arria 10 device is selected)

2) Install eclipse following the readme

3) install WSL using PDF instructions

4) upload lane2 pin-strap .jic file. upload lane1 pin-strap mode

5) Upload lane1 I2C and program I2C correctly.

6) Test I2C mode enumeration.

I put the driver on my 10Gbps platform, but I'm not sure what device to install it under. Not enumerating yet.

2) Open the tree-viewer and connect device with cable (C-C or A-C)

3) One connected enumeration will be seen (1st step of driver installation may be required)

4) Open the GUI App and follow steps in How_to_upload_JIC file document

For tuning can we see the full pre-channel (from host to redriver) and post-channel lengths (from redriver to connector). As well as the loss profile/ loss of these traces. This will help me determine the best EQ settings for the system. 

The full pre-channel loss (from host to redriver) is approximately 4.5 dB, and the post-channel loss (from redriver to connector) is around 2.7 dB. Note: This includes the FMC connector loss, which is approximately 2 dB

I getting these errors thrown now. Nios 2 will no longer open. I think this may be a security issue, but I wanted to check on your end if you've seen anything like this.

It looks like WSL installation related issue. I haven't faced this type of issue.

Have you followed all steps mentioned in Getting Start Install WSL document?

Yes, I followed the steps as best I could.

I am not allowed admin right on PowerShell, but we have an externa; .exe for WSL enabling. 

I downloaded Ubuntu and made sure the version is correct as well.

However, I cannot open the nios ii shell.

I see the error WSL cannot be found and the window closes immediately. 

Do you think you IT team can help to solve WSL install related issue? 

Without WSL NIOS II terminal will not open.

If the version of WSL is 2, you can enter the following command in the Command Prompt window to change the WSL version to 1.
wsl --set-version Ubuntu-18.04 1

Yeah, sorry for the long debug. I am working with IT to resolve this, seems to be a server/ blocking issue.

Did you get a change to test Pinstrep mode lane1 and lane2 sof file with Startech Asmedia host?

Here are the results I have gathered for the pin-strap board:

1) Testing con1_lane2 (Realtek Host + AMD Host)

Test runtime: 1min 10s

Error count: 7

Comments: Errors are triggered once very 10s. Is this a real failure? Typically a consistent periodic failure may have to do with the pattern/ packets being sent. Not sure what is causing this.

The results are the same for both hosts used.

Have you checked with star-tech Asmedia host that we sent to you along with FMC card?

You may see different behavior according to different host.  Error you are getting is due to signal integrity. It may require FMC tunning.

I just retested with the Asmedia host as well, and I see the same results. Error approx. every 10s.

Test con1_lane1 con1_lane2 for long hours each make sure no errors occur. If errors occur then tune using jumper settings.

After we can get no errors on both individually, test USB 3.2 gen2x2 20gbps and see if error count is 0 over long hours.

For I2C testing, redownload all software following installation documents on 3rd party PC on 3rd party wifi network and retest I2C setting using nios ii terminal. 

Questions:

1) Are we able to solder wire on the SDA and SCL pins of the I2C board connecting an external I2C controller. This will allow for I2C configuration of the TUSB1104 without having to use any terminal commands. This will speed up I2C testing.

I need the 2x2 SOF file with elf file embedded to test UBS3.2 gen 2x2 at 20gbps.
