TCAN1145-Q1: CANH or CANL shorted to Vbat or GND Device Operation

Part Number: TCAN1145-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi TRX Team,

I was reviewing the e2e thread here: TCAN1145-Q1: CANH and CANL short to GND detection - Interface forum - Interface - TI E2E support forums because my customer has a similar question - How does TCAN1145-Q1 operate in the following conditions:

Can you please confirm my understanding below, especially the bolded questions.

CANH shorted to Vbat -> Device will continue transmitting data, but may be at a slower data rate. Any other way to detect from the TCAN1145-Q1?

CANL shorted to Vbat ->Complete communication failure. Device enters fail-safe mode? Any other way to detect from the TCAN1145-Q1?

CANL shorted to GND -> Device will continue transmitting data, but may be at a slower data rate. Any other way to detect from the TCAN1145-Q1?

CANH shorted to GND-> Complete communication failure. Device enters fail-safe mode? Any other way to detect from the TCAN1145-Q1?

Thanks for your help

  • Hi Cameron,

Please refer to the functional safety document of TCAN1145, for CANL short to VBAT and CANH short to GND scenarios, normal communicating is not possible but it won't enter fail-safe mode. 0x54 register will issue an corresponding interrupt to those bus faults.

    Regards,
