TCAL6416: power on reset necessary?

Hi team,

I notice there's a power on sequence of VCCp of this device

since customer now is considering to connect VCCp and VCCi together for convienience,

so we wonder is it necassry and only way for VCCp to do this down and up for resetting to default value ?

Hi Fred,

For TCAL6416, you can reset the device registers back to its original state by power cycling according to the voltage plot above, sending a software reset command, or toggling the external /RESET pin.

got it, so it not necessary to do power reset, then we will prefer sending our own software initial command.

Sounds good.

The software reset command can be found in the datasheet.

Hi Tyler,

instead of soft reset, can customer just send first command to what their initial output want to be?

Hi Fred,

I am not sure I understand your question.

If the customer wants to setup their output on the TCAL6416, they can do so by writing to the configuration and output port registers in the TCAL6416.

I mean instead soft reset to default 0000000000000000, can we set a other value in initial command like 0011010110010001 instead ?

I am not sure where you are getting 16 bits from.

The reserved general call I2C bus address is 0000 0000 with the R/W bit = 0. The byte sent to the TCAL6416 after a start condition is 0x00.

Then the controller will send 0x06 followed by a stop condition to end software reset sequence.

Start --> 0x00 --> 0x06 --> stop

The combinations you provided would not work for the TCAL6416.
