Several older IO Expanders from TI has support in the mainline Linux Kernel. Since e.g. TXE8116 is fairly new, it has no support in Linux. Is support in Linux planned for this/these devices? If yes, when is the expected release date?

Hi Lars,

We have had a couple requests for TXE81xx Linux support. It is not currently planned to support Linux at the moment.

Would Linux support be required for designing in this device?

Yes I do require Linux support. However, I can also design in the TCAL9539-Q1 as an alternative. My processor has I2C interface. I require the IO expander device being functional safety capable. Is Linux support available for this device?

If TCAL9539-Q1 can use the same driver as described here, I think the device is supported: TCA9539-Q1: Linux driver

Can you please verify this?

Hi Lars,

The linux driver for TCA9539-Q1 will be a good start. I am not sure if this linux driver will cover the extended feature set of the TCAL9539-Q1 which includes agile IO registers such as open-drain/push-pull IO configuration.

From a general I2C driver perspective, the TCAL will respond to the TCA linux driver.
