TUSB4041I: USB Interface Support

Part Number: TUSB4041I
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB8042A

Hello ,

For one of the prodct we want to use USB Hub with atleast 3 downstream ports:

Port 1: USB A for Dongles, Pendrive , Keyboard etc

Port 2: USB C for Charging, Communicating , USB based speaker /Headphone/ Microphone/Audio.

Port 3: USB To HDMI or Ethernet.

So, will this part is okay to use ? Also let me know if any low cost and low current consumption part is available as our device will work on the battery.

Regards,

Mahammadirfan

  • Hi  Mahammadirfan:

TUSB4041 is USB2 hub, if you need  to support USB3, then TUSB8042A is option.

  • Dear Brian,

Thanks for the quick response. I hope this are the lowest cost device.

Other than the cost the critical parameter for our product is Current consumption when active/idle/sleep modes as our product working on the battery.

From the datasheet I got the below details:

TUSB8042A : Active Max current is 680mA while TUSB4041 : Active Max current is 225mA while in SMBUS mode both are very high. so, need low current and low cost device.

I don't have considered the device current consumption which will be connected to the downstream ports.

  • If no USB3 needed, then TUSB4041 should work, but all TI hub has high current in SMBUS mode.

  • Dear Brian,

If I use only I2C then will it reduce further or not ?

Any other part with less current if I use only 2 Downstream Ports ?

  • Hi Mahammadirfan:

Sorry for confusion in SMBUS mode

After power on reset, hub will be in SMBUS configure mode and hub upstream port will not be connected to host until  cfgActive bit is cleared in register F8.

The high current is only happened in SMBUS configure mode and current  will be normal after hub existing configure mode.

In I2C mode,  1.1v current will be also high during power on sequence when GRSTz is low.
