DP83640T-EVK: Can use this eval kit as standalone system for my FPGA ?

I have bought this DP83640T evaluation kit. I am using FPGA for time-stamping and synchronisation. I would like to your help with regards to a few things.

1. I want a pps aligned for which i intent to use the my FPGA GEM routed through PL to the DP83640T. Programm it through MDIO and get the pps into my PL. I can use GMII (uses 8 data bits) ? (I am planning to use only lower 4 bit [3:0] ) so i can so with the MII interface of the DP83640T (which it seems compatible with mentioned in the datasheet) ?

2. I can see a second chip on the eval kit. From the schematic capture it seems like a micro-controller ( CY7C68013A-56LFXC) is also used inside . I would like to know Can i programm this micro-controller to make the evaluation kit be used as a standalone system for programming the PHY chip to give me a PPS signal ?

3. If 2nd is true . I can use CCS for it or do i need a specific software to programm it or go bare-metal C on it ?

Hi,

1. It will not support GMII. It only supports MII/RMII as this device is 100M PHY.

2. You cannot program the microcontroller. This is meant to be used to access the PHY's registers via MDIO.

I want a pps signal for the time being now only . From the datasheet i think it is possible . I wanted to know if it can be done in a standalone way using the micro-processor chip on it. How we we get to access it ?

I connect the USB to the EVK board and run my Analog Launchpad but it seems to not detect the module !

Is there a better way to run it in a simple way ?

Hi,

I apologize. I seem to have misunderstood your question. You can use the microcontroller to access the PHY registers to give out the signal you need. Plugging USB should detect the module. Because Analog Launchpad is a very old SW, we do not have much information on this anymore.

Have you tried using USB-2-MDIO yet?

For the best support, I recommend to use MSP430F5529 launchpad and flash this controller with USB2MDIO program to access the register if Analog Launchpad doesnt work.
