DS90UR910-Q1: How to determine the best setting for EQ[3:1] ?

Part Number: DS90UR910-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS90UR241

We are now using DS90UR910 pair with DS90UR905 or DS90UR241 in automotive infotainment applications. While sometimes different configurations for EQ[3:1]  affect the stability of the image, sometimes it does not have obvious effect. So, how can we determine the best configurations for EQ[3:1]? Thank you.

  • Hi Wei,

There are a couple of different ways to go about determining the best EQ setting for the UR910. The datasheet lists the amount of EQ boost provided to the incoming signal for the corresponding setting. If you know the amount of attenuation caused by the cable between the SER and DES, you could set the EQ boost similar to the amount of channel attenuation.

The UR910 provides CMLOUT pins which allow the user to connect a high speed scope for analyzing the eye diagram. See the below example scope capture

Another method would be to use the BIST (built in self test) and try testing different EQ settings to see which one provides the least amount of errors. My recommendation would be to either do the CMLOUT measurement or figure out how much attenuation is present in the channel. BIST is more appropriate for functional testing.

    Best,

    Jack
