DP83826E: Can multiple DP83826E chips be connected to the same external crystal oscillator?

Hi all,

I noticed in the document “How and Why to Use the DP83826 for EtherCAT” that the PHY chip and the ESC need to use the same clock source.

We are using two DP83826E chips. Can the same external crystal oscillator be connected to both PHY chips?

Hello,

For EtherCAT to properly compensate clocks, the SoC needs to be on the same clock domain as the PHYs or have control over the PHY's clocks.
