Hello,

I asked a question in another thread, but I didn't get an answer, so I created a new thread.
I received an inquiry from the customer about link between DP83822 and their PC.

The customer informed me that the link between the PC and the DP83822 on the DP83TC811EVM is possible when the auto-nego of the DP83822 is set to OFF (bit 12 of the 0x0000 register=1), but it is not possible when they set the bit to 0.  Is this behavior expected?

    Hi Ima-san,

    This is not necessarily expected behavior. This can either be caused by the link partner of the DP83822 having auto-negotiation disabled or an issue with the negotiation between devices. Is the DP83822 able to link up with devices other than this PC?

    Thank you for your reply. Could you please let me confirm.

    If the link partner of DP83822 disables Auto-nego, does it mean that link cannot be made even if bit 12 of register 0x0000 of DP83822 is set to 1 and Auto-nego is enabled?

    Is it normal to get Link Fail when bit 12 of register 0x000 is set to 0?

    Hi Imai-san,

    If auto-negotiation was disabled on the link partner PHY and enabled on the DP83822 by setting register 0x0[12] = 1, the two PHYs would likely not be able to link-up correctly. It is not normal to get Link Fail when bit 12 of register 0x000 is set to 0, but this could be caused by a difference in speed selection on the two link partner PHYs.
