DP83TC817S-Q1: TC10 Ethernet Wakeup query

Part Number: DP83TC817S-Q1

Hello Team,

Does DP83TC817SQ1 support magic packet based WoL ?

  • Hi Kanishk,

When in TC10 sleep, PHY can wake up on the reception of a pre-defined wake-up pulse:

  • Hi Charles,
Thanks for the reply. From the snippet you shared from datasheet, it implies only WUP-based wake is supported and DP83TC817 doesn't support any frame-based wake (Magic packet/WoL). Is my understanding correct?

Also, I would appreciate your clarifications below,

    1. Is it possible for you share the PMA PSD-mask / timing spec the incoming WUP must meet per IEEE 802.3 100BASE-T1?

    2.  My understanding is that only a genuine TC10-aware PHY can generate WUP and wakeup the other TC10 PHY. Can a non-TC10 link partner ever wake the PHY intentionally, or only accidentally by driving raw media energy? (We see a non-TC10 media converter(Radmoon) re-wake the PHY continuously right after PHY's been put to sleep)

  • Hi Kanishk,

    Sorry for the delay:

    1. Correct.

    2. This can be found in IEEE 802.3 spec. I cannot share over e2e.

    3. Master training symbols of non-TC10 PHY is also sufficient to wake up sleeping link partner.

    Thanks,

    Charles
