Customer wants to build a board that can operate at both 3.1G and 1.6G and therefore wants to use the TLK2501 (1.5Gbps to 2.5Gbps) and TLK3101 (2.5Gbps to 3.125Gbps). The problem is that the terminations in the data sheet are different. Why do we recommend the different termination configurations and is there one that would be better suited for both modes of operation?
Thanks
Jeff
Hi Jeff,
The TLK3101 is functionally identical to the TLK2501. The only difference is that the TLK3101 has integrated terminations (see Figure 14 and 15 of the TLK3101 datasheet) while the TLK2501 requires the user to provide external terminations (see Figure 15, and 16 of the TLK2501 datasheet). The customer can build the board with the optional external terminations (as shown in Figure 15 and 16 of the TLK2501 datasheet) which will be installed when the TLK2501 is used and left uninstalled when the TLK3101 is used. The board layout should be in such away that no long stubs are left out when the terminations are not installed.
Best regards.
Hassan.
