SN65LVPE512, how to use device side

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN65LVPE512, TUSB551, TUSB501

Dear Specialists

My customer is evaluating SN65LVPE512 for device side.

He has already confirmed URL.

http://e2e.ti.com/support/interface/usb/f/1008/t/450944

In the condition, he encountered some problems.

Could you please advise.

1. It was not recognized between host(PC) and device(SN65LVPE512) by USB2.0 cable.

USB controller of device side is EZ-USB FX3(cypress).
SN65LVPE512 is in front of the EZ-USB FX3.

It is recognized if the connection is cut USB3.0 physically.

He thinks the device should be normally passed both USB2.0 and USB3.0.

2. The device could not be in the Rx compliance test, therefore he couldn't test.

If SN65LVPE512 is removed, it can be in the compliance mode.

He is thinking that  SN65LVPE512 is originally for host.

If it is used for device, it is needed not only changing connection, but also another points for instance power sequence or etc.

Could you please see an attached file.

Best regards,

Shinichi

  • Hello,

The customer's assumption is right, the SN65LVPE512 is focused on the host side, for device implementations we highly recommend the TUSB501 or the TUSB551. A second solutions is to use the SN65LVPE512 in backwards position, i.e. connect the controller's side of the re-driver to the cypress device and the connector side to the connector (this is because the controller side it is intended to be permanently attached).

    Regards,
    Diego.
  • Dear Diego

    Thank you for your reply.

I talk to the customer, so development schedule is very tight, he can't change to TUSB501 or TUSB551.

    It must be used SN65LVPE512.

In this case, are there any measure  to establish the Rx compliance test?

    Could you please advise?

    I appreciate your great help.

    Best regards,

    Shinichi

  • Hello,

In this case and if the customer is using the RGE version, then I highly recommend you to use the SN65LVPE502B instead, it is almost pin-compatible (they only have to change the configuration pins).

    Regards,

    Diego.

  • Dear Diego

Thahk your for your reply and suggestion.

Actually, the customer has already tested SN65LVPE502B, but this device is not able to clear LFPS test.

Because SN65LVPE502B is not change the output swing automatically.

When SN65LVPE512 is used for device side, is there any possibility to connect RX compliance test?

If possible, could you advise the way to solve.

I appreciate your great help and cooperation.

    Best regards,

    Shinichi
