TUSB501DRFR - DC Blocking Capacitors

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB501

TUSB501.pptxWe have configuration A in our older design and configuration B in new design. USB3.0 did not work in configuration B and came to know that DC blocking cap is mandatory at equalizer output. We shorted the DC blocking cap in configuration A and find out that configuration A failed now. We did not see any recommendation of DC blocking block in the datasheet.

Do you have any drop in replacement parts with in build DC blocking capacitors? Or do you have any suggestion to implement without changing the layout design.

  • Hi Rahul,

AC caps on not TUSB501 specific requirement, those caps are required from USB specification. We don't have devices that have AC caps incldued, they will need to cut the trace and place AC caps.

This is from USB3.1 specification, revision 1.0, July 26, 2013. Section 3.2.1 Physical layer
... Each differential sublink is AC-coupled with capacitors located on the transmitter side of the differential sublink...
