TPS65982: Billboard question

Expert 1015 points

I can turn on billboarding and then also turn on the Enable Intel VID under register 0x52 on my image downloaded to my board.

When I connect to a Dell laptop, I see the name of the device show up under "Universal Serial Bus devices" in the device manager. It displays whatever is in field #2, iProduct, of the of the General Settings page of the Application Customizer tool. The default is TPS65982. However, after about 5 seconds a new line pops up under the 'Universal Serial Bus controllers' section which says 'Unknown USB Device (Port Reset Failed)'.

If I connect an EVM board to the laptop with a cable and the switches set = 7, it doesn't bill board, but rather I get 'Unknown USB Device (Set Address Failed)'.

What I'm wondering is there any way to program the registers so that I don't get the yellow triangle and the 'Unknown... message'? I've modified different fields in the TX identity register but haven't come across anything that works.

Thanks,
WST

  • Hi WST,

The below post has some more information on billboarding:
    e2e.ti.com/.../508958

If you have already reviewed this, could you try right clicking on the device in the Device Manager and selecting Update Driver Software?
I have not been able to reproduce this issue on my end with a TPS65982-EVM.

    Thank you,
    Eric
  • I did what you suggested and it didn't fix it immediately, but I tried again today, and now the Dell laptop successfully reads the billboard information and shows the contents of the 2nd field of my image and there is no error message, it lists it as a 'USB composite device'. However, if I try the TI-EVM set to #7, I still get an error, I'm not sure why. But my problem seems to have been fixed.
