SCANSTA112: Topology question

Part Number: SCANSTA112
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SCANSTA101

Hello,

Below is customer topology. They have 18 JTAG device to scan so connect 3 daisy chain SCANSTA112 from BMC to meet this requirement. Does it work for below topology? Do we have any reference design to customer ? Thank you.

BR

Patrick

  • Hi Patrick,

Please allow me a few days to review the block diagram and see if there are any documents that I can provide as reference for the design.

    Regards,
    Ryan
  • Hello Ryan,

Has any update for this topology? Thank you.

  • Hi Patrick,

Yes, the SCANSTA112 devices can be daisy-chained. If they are daisy-chained and connected to the same backplane, it is usually recommended to operate in Scanbridge mode, as the user will typically need a way to access/address each SCANSTA112 device individually for system setup.

I would suggest looking at the SCANSTA112 Designer's Reference for information about how to control the SCANSTA112. Another good resource is the SCANSTA101 Design Guide: SCANSTA101_Design_Guide2010.pdf

Unfortunately, we cannot offer more support besides these reference documents, since the original team that supported these products no longer exists in TI, and we have limited expertise remaining for these products.

    Regards,
    Dennis

  • Hello Denis,

Thanks for your reply. We have another case. Customer  have 5 port JTAG device (CPLD/Slot Card…). They just only need JTAG mux by external HW strap pin to select what port JTAG device was selected. They don't need to daisy chain topology.

Some questions as below. Do you have any comments for it? Thank you.

    Questions:

    1. Below topology work or not of SCANSTA112?
    2. Do we have any reference schematics by customer topology?
    3. If mux by external HW strap pin, we need select Stitcher mode of SCANSTA112, right?
    4. How to configure and select different port for HW strap pin?

  • Hi Patrick,

We do have a PDF schematic of the SCANSTA112, but unfortunately there are no more EVMs available, and there are no plans to re-make this board, as we do not have access to the design files anymore.

    STA112 Schematic.pdf

Please use the PDF schematic as a reference only.

Yes you would need to use stitcher mode and LSPsel (0-6) to select different port externally.

  • Hi Patrick,

If your concern is on 2 CPU daisy chain (as circled in red below), I think two CPU daisy chain just means that there will be two CPUs used in the boundary scan daisy chain. I think as long as the master knows the configuration to expect, that should not be an issue.

  • Hello Dennis,

Customer needs us approve this topology is workable or not. They would like to reply to end customer. So, the topology used SCANSTA112 is approve to work? Thank you.
