TUSB8041: TUSB8041 IBSI-AMI Model

Part Number: TUSB8041

Hi Guys,

I am using TUSB8041 device as part of my board as USB3.0 hub controller.

To verify SI at 5 Gbps, i observed that, IBIS model available at website is not supporting (supporting up to 2.5 Gbps).

I would request you to share TUSB8041 IBIS-AMI model if any one having it. Thank you and looking forward your support.

Rgds,

Prvn.

  • Hi,

Can you please elaborate on why you are mentioning 5Gbps isn't supported on the current IBIS model?
Please note that SS USB uses a NRZI encoding, so when having a 2.5GHz waveform, you are actually getting 5Gbps.

    Regards,
  • Hi Team,

    1. I am not sure that, but in the IBIS file for the TUSB8041, the following is said about the different models for USB3:

    usb3_DE USB 3.0 De-Emphasis mode, best at 1.25GHz
    usb3_WODE USB 3.0 No De-Emphasis mode, for SSTXP/N 2.5GHz
    usb3_SATA1 USB 3.0 SATA1 mode, for SSTXP/N 750MHz
    usb3_SATA2 USB 3.0 SATA2 mode, for SSTXP/N 1.5GHz

So, i though it supporting upto 2.5GHz ( by using USB3_WODE). And i also observed that, Equalization details are not available in IBIS model available over TI Website.

In this regards, I requested you to provide IBIS-AMI model for this part?

    2. Also do let me know, how i can set up equalization in provided model to see accurate results in my simulation.
Thank you and looking forward your support.

    Regards,
    prvn.
  • prvn,

Unfortunately we have no IBIS-AMI model for this device.
We only provide the IBIS model you already have.

Equalization cannot be adjusted on this model.

    Jorge

  • Hi Jorge,

Thank you for your e-mail and support.

Below attached file shows, Signal topology and simulation of USB3.0 signal path as per my design.

In this regards, can you please provide your response to quires asked in attached files?

Thank you and looking forward to your support.

  • hi Jorge,

And i also do us know, how we can get better results using TUSB8041 IBIS as TI Dosen't have IBIS-AMI model.

    Regards,
    Prvn.
  • How did you set up the equalization?

  • Hi Jorge,

I run FastEye analysis using default setting of CTLE by Hyperlynx tool.

And i also observed that, there is no difference in result on Digital Oscilloscope (either in standard Or eye diagram operation ) when TUSB8041 device (Driver) configured with De-emphasis and without de-emphasis.

Please do let me know, whether any modifications required in model available on TI Website to result differently when we use different models.

Request to verify model and do let me know if there is changes required while using the model.

Thank you and looking forward to your quick response.

    Regards,

    Prvn.

  • Your simulation results look fine.

You should clearly see a difference between the model using de-emphasis and the one that it is not.

Below are some simulation results I got using the model on ADS:

  • Thank you Jorge for your quick reply and response.
But can you please check the same in Hyperlynx tool. Unfortunately, i do not have ADS tool with me to check the same.
And i don't think so, model has any limitation w.r.t to tool usage for simulation.

And also i would request you to review my results which i shared (1st Nov'2017 post) above. And request for your help at earliest.
Thank you and looking forward to your support.

    Regards,
    Prvn.
  • I previously looked at your simulation results and there's nothing abnormal on them. Jitter on the eye diagram is likely induced by cables and connectors in your simulation setup, but eye opening is still good enough to pass.

There is no limitation on the model, so you should be able to use it on Hyperlynx without issues (it seems you already are)

    Jorge
