TPS65982: TPS65982 issue in 15V PDO: FW relative (from 1.12.0~1.12.6)

Part Number: TPS65982

Hi all,

We meet a strange situation: Customer test their dock with HP Sepctre Laptop and it will ask 15V PDO in CC communication. When our FW version is v1.12.0, we can communicate with HP NB successfully when the NB power is in all power condition. But when we change FW version to  v1.12.6, we can't success to make up the cc connection in power if NB battery is higher than 90%, and the link process will be retry and can't process alt mode communication. Here're the experiments we test on

1. We test another two FW. the same setting in v1.12.2 can pass the test, but v1.12.5 is failed.

2. If we remove 15V PDO on the setting in v1.12.6 FW,  the communication is ok.

Please help to advise what should we have to do to clear the issue. Thanks for your kindly help.

The fig. below are the condition in different power status (91% in left, 89% in right).TPS65982_1p12p06b.pjt

  • Hi Gary,

Could you attach the PD log trace so that I can see the entire message? Also, our PD controller does not distinguish when a particular battery is at 90% or any percentage. Is there a battery management IC on your board?
  • Hi Aramis,

    1. Please see the attached file about log of transmission.raw.zip

    2. I have no idea why there's different result about different battery capability in HP's TBT NB. Our dock is type-c power source with fix PDO voltage and don't have battery in our side.

    3. Dell is pushing our customer to solve the issue ASAP. Do you have any comment for us to clear it? Measuring HW signal or...?

    Thanks for your kindly help.

    Gary

  • Hi Gary,

Thank you for your PD log files. I have several questions for you:

    1) Could you give a quick explanation on the three different files attached (hp_uno_89p, hp_uno_100p, and hp_uno_100p_1p12p0).
    2) Are you using one of our EVM Boards or one of your own boards? If using one of our TPS65982EVM's, we don't have a PDO for a 15V rail.
    3) If using your own board, how are you creating the 15V rail in hardware?
  • Hi Gary,

Since we closed this thread, could you PLEASE select  This resolved my issue

Thank you so much for your question and choosing TI parts for your design :-)
