TPS65982: Negotiate 5V PDO from PP_EXT OCP issue

Part Number: TPS65982

Hi, Team

When I test OCP function of TPS65982, I found some problem about 5V negotiate from PP_EXT. Below shows the OCP waveform capture.

When over current occur, would shut down PP_VBUS and try to return normal, and PP_VBUS last about 150mS, I think it's not in good protect state, what should be the correct state?

  • Hello,

Using the configuration tool, you can change the external power path over current timeout within register 0x28 and bits 46:49. You can also peak current capabilities to be sinked for each PDO.
  • Exactly, I set the over current timeout as default showed as below

"You can also peak current capabilities to be sinked for each PDO."

I don't get this point, I have set peak current as 150%, and I don't this this will cause over current retry last time.

  • Hello Picher,

Then the timeout should be the 640us that you have it set to. The typical characteristics for over current situations are shown in sections 9.3.3.4 and 9.3.3.9 of the datasheet.

  • Hi, Adam

    Thanks for your reply.

Exactly, when 5V negotiate from PP_5V0, 9V/12V/15V/20V negotiate form PP_EXT, the OCP characteristics can meet the spec, But 5V negotiate from PP_EXT alway have a waveform like above, at retry process the voltage last too long.
