DS80PCI810: Best placement for repeater location

Part Number: DS80PCI810

Hi,

I've seen recommendations to place the DS80PCI810 repeater as to close to the receiver as possible. If the receiver has up to 16db of equalization, can the repeater be place 16db away from the receiver without any issues?

Thanks,

Jason

  • Hi Jason,

In theory, the DS80PCI810 can be placed up to 16 dB away. In practice, this may not be the case for error-free operation. It depends on how the receiver's EQ responds to the signal coming from the DS80PCI810's linear EQ and driver. Since the DS80PCI810 does not have de-emphasis on the Tx driver in order to preserve linear equalization, there is little that can be done on the DS80PCI810 chip to provide Tx EQ if desired by the receiver.

I would recommend running simulations to determine whether the quality of the eye coming from the DS80PCI810 after 16 dB of channel loss is sufficient for your receiver to achieve error-free operation.

    Thanks,

    Michael
  • HI Michael,

Could I get your direct contact info so I can give you more information on my application so I can find out what repeate/redriver I should use. One of my Co-workers have worked directly with you.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Jason,

No problem. I will reach out to you by e-mail and take this discussion offline.
