TLK10034: TLK10034 -DS100MB203 data link not working

Part Number: TLK10034
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS100MB203

Hello,

The below figure shows the data flow path in our design:

PROCESSOR <----------> TLK10034<------------->DS100MB203<------------>SWITCH

                            XAUI                                        10GBaseKR                                   10GBaseKR

The configuration we want is as follows:

  • TLK10034 in XAUI-to 10GBaseKR mode
  • DS100MB203 as 10GBaseKR MUX( configured through SMBus)

But on board power up, the data link is not working.

We are able to access the registers of the devices TLK10034 and DS100MB203 through MXSMI and I2C respectively.

We have verified the following:

  • The devices are out of reset.
  • The clock of TLK10034 is proper.
  • The pins ensmb(pin no:48) and MODE (pin no:21) of DS100MB203 are high.

DS100MB203 Vin voltage is 3.3V.

We have the following queries:

  1. Is there any fault in the configuration?
  2. Do we have to configure any particular registers of TLK10034?(We have a pull down resistor at ST pin to put the device in 10GBase KR)

  • Hello

Attached is the bring up procedure for the different modes of the TLK10034.  It shows which registers need to be configured.

  • Hello Yaser,
    Thank you for the reply.
We tried testing the device as mentioned in the document shared.
We observed that in 10Gbase KR mode the device is not passing auto-negotiation. The register 30.15 of TLK10034 is returning different values at different times. the values read are 0x1803, 0x3003 and 1003.

We tried to send 1G traffic by configuring the switch in 1G mode then auto-negotiation was complete and links were up .The register 30.15 value was consistent .the value read is 0x1C03.

Is any other settings required other than ST, MODE_SEL, PRBSEN and REFCLK_SEL?(These settings were verified and found to be same as those mentioned in the bring up document.

What can be the reason for the device not able to complete auto negotiation?

    TIA,
    Ashitha
  • Hello Ashitha,

It is possible that there is signal integrity issues which degrade the performance in 10G mode, but not enough to degare the performance in 1G mode. Please check the signal integrity on your board/setup, and also perhaps try different settings for the de-emphasis and/or equalizer.

    Regards,
    Yaser
  • Hello,

I have noticed that you branched into a separate discussion with Lee on this. Did that resolve your issue? If not, have you looked at signal integrity, as I suggested above?

    Regards,
    Yaser
  • Hi Yaser,

    Thank you for the reply.

The issue is resolved. There were no SI issues.

With optimum EQ and DEM values the link was working.

    Thanks,

    Ashitha
