TUSB9261: Flash Programming Questions

Part Number: TUSB9261

Hello,

This applies to both the TUSB9261 and TUSB9261-Q1.

1) I am planing on wiring the TUSB9261 directly to a USB hub (TUSB802X) on my PCB. Can I use the Flash burner programmer to program the TUSB9261 through the hub?

2) I don't want the user to have the ability to reprogram the SPI flash. Most Flash ICs have a Write protect feature. Are there any issues with programming the Flash here at the factory with the TI flash burner software, then disabling writing on the Flash IC? If someone tries to reprogram the write protected flash with the flash burner software, will this corrupt the TUSB9261? Or would the reprogramming just be discarded?

Thanks

Tim Anderson

  • Tim,

Yes, the TUSB9261 can be programmed through the hub.

If the Write Protect pin is grounded, the SPI flash would not be writable. So if you attempt to erase or write the flash through the TUSB9261, it could get stuck waiting for the SPI flash to return the expected status. If that happened, you would need to reset or power cycle the part to recover normal operation.
