Hello,

The attached image shows the data path in the system.

1.When we connect the cards with TLK10034-DS100MB203 -DS100MB203 -TLK10034 back to back , the link is not up.

The register 30.15 reads 0x1803.

When we connect one card with a different card the link is up.

Why is it so? Do we have to do some specific register configuration in TLK10034?

2.When we put the switch connected to DS100MB203 in loop-back mode( Switch RX-Switch TX), then also the link is not up

Is there any particular register setting in the TLK10034 device required?

Hi Ashitha,

With just 12 inches of board trace and two DS100MB203's in the link there is a strong possibility that the 10G-KR link will over-equalize and failure to train properly.

Do you have the CTLE set to minimum?

Hi Lee,
We have set the DEM and EQ values to "0" in DS100. Won't this setting disable equalization ?
Will there be link failure due to over equalization with this setting?

Ashitha,

It is possible the combination of TLK10034 and multiple DS100MB203 devices will not properly train and over-equalize the path.

If the over-equalization is significant link failure is possible. Increasing the DS100MB203 equalization will increase the risk of this situation.

Hello Lee,
Thank you for the reply.
We have made the following changes in DS100MB203 registers:
Instead of setting the DEM as '0' dB, we have changed to '-1.5dB', that is 0x26 register->0x01.
We also changed the Rx precursor equalizer selection setting in TLK10034:
TLK10034:
0x1E.0x0004-->0xE400 and 0x1E.0x0004-->0xD400 for port 1 and 0 respectively.

With these settings the links are up and stable.
