TPS65981: power role swap

Part Number: TPS65981

Hi Team,

My customer considers to design USB2.0 UFP device, and it isn't required bus powered feature because AC adapter is prepared.
He wants it to source VBUS(5V/3A) to smart phone for charging with USB2.0 communication when connected with USB type-C cable.
Is it possible for TPS65981 to do the job?

I believe power role swap is required when connected (PD negotiation).
I would also like to ask if it is achieved under TPS65981 stand-alone operation (no embedded controller).

Best Regards,
Yaita / Japan disty

  • Hi Yaita-san,

Yes, the TPS65981 can be a power source and maintain a USB2.0 data connection. No Host MCU is required for this application. It can be completely configured using the application customization tool.
