DS90UB953-Q1: Configuring DS90UB953/DS90UB954 for STP cable operation

Part Number: DS90UB953-Q1

Dear Sir,

I have the similar question with  https://e2e.ti.com/support/interface/high_speed_interface/f/138/p/633315/2343176#2343176. but the power is powered by standalone 2 wires (awg24 or awg26),not coupled with STP.

I see CSI2 COAX sync mode can be strapped by external Mode PIN, but I want to power up by STP mode by default, How to configure this STP mode?

Thanks.

David

  • Can you elaborate your issue more clearly? the cable is awg24?
If you select STP cable in the ub953/954 link, you can use the default mode_sel setting, and reg. setting as well to set the correct clock mode.

    best regards,
    Steven
  • Dear Steven,

The default mode is strapped by external MODE pin while powering up, STP of csi2 sync mode can not be configured by external MODE pin.

My concern is how to set up STP mode (csi2 sync mode)as default mode while powering up?

    Best regards.

    David
  • you need use reg. to configure the sync. mode.

  • Dear Steven,

I am very confused about how to set up STP mode as default while power up.

In fact, STP wires are connected between 953 and 954, and then power on, the system is working at COAX csi2 sync mode by external MODE pin.

In this case, it seems the system also can transmit video from 953 to 954. which is described in e2e.ti.com/.../2343176.

if you want to switch COAX csi2 sync mode to STP csi2 sync mode and match the real STP connection , you have to write CMD to mode_sel register and change COAX mode to STP mode.

I don't understand why we should select COAX or STP, In fact , I have experience about Thine product, it is similar with TI solution, they also support COAX and STP, but I don't need to write cmd to select COAX or STP.

It is very clear, it is working while STP connection whatever MODE pin is strapped by COAX.

Can you explain the difference between STP and COAX , matched ( hardware connected and software configuration is matched)

and not matched(hardware connection is STP, but MODE Pin is configured as COAX csi sync)?

    Thanks.

    David
  • the default mode of UB954 can't support many diff. setting due to pin limitation.
in our d/s, it is clear the default mode with external resistors can support the STP with async. mode. As you know, the STP or Coax and sync. or async. are independent. if you need STP&Sync. mode, since you had set the STP&Async. in the mode_sel (with external resistors setting - #0), so you just need configure the reg. 0x58[2:0] = b'110.

    regards,
    Steven
  • Dear Steven,

I had seen another topic about STP and COAX (based on DS90UB927 ..) , it seems almost of features are same, just the Vp-p or signal Range is different, COAX range is half of STP range. although  the real connection don't match each, the back channel can work  and HOST can write mode_sel reg to switch COAX or STP .

    Is it right?

  • YES!

    Regards,
    Steven
