UCC21520: UCC21520: Failure mode where VDDA/VSSA short together

Part Number: UCC21520

Hi Team,

One of my Customer is facing similar issues.

They are observing random short circuits across Vdda-Vssa when microcontroller is reset.

During Reset, the Vdda-Vssa supply voltage of the driver will reduce and go up to the old value after reset. They have not observed any overshoot on the supply voltages. Also, this failure is not repeatable.

Is this a problem with a particular batch of IC's? is this issue rectified?

  • Hi Praveen,

Of course there is no problem with this device, we 100% test them before shipping them out.

This is a high-performance part that depends on a "good" layout. We have much information in the data sheet on how to properly layout the PCB. I find most issues are caused by poor PCB layout. If you can share the PCB layout, we can check it.

Have parts been sent back for analysis?
  • Thanks Don for your prompt reply. I will share Schematics and Layout on email separately.

    Regards,
    Praveen
