TPS65981: Blank SPI external flash memory programming

Part Number: TPS65981

Hi,

Assuming flash memory in TPS65981EVM is blank, is it mandatory to use an external tool like Aadvark to program it, or this programming can be made through TPS6598x Application Customization Tool using USB cable?

Best wishes,

  • Hi Newton,

When the external flash memory is blank, it is required to use an external programmer like an Aardvark or FTDI. However, once there is a valid configuration image on the SPI Flash, you can update the contents of the SPI Flash over I2C by following the steps in this app note:

  • Hi Eric,

    Thank you for the answer.

In the meantime between my last post and your answer I succeeded in programming the external flash memory using only TPS65981EVM board, its FTDI board and TPS6598x Customization Tool.
Instead of superimposing both TPS65981EVM and FTDI board, I connected their SPI signals through a cable (leaving I2C signals disconnected), and managed in using Flash App Firmware to Device of TPS6598x Customization Tool to program the blank flash memory.

    Best wishes,

    Newton
  • Hi Newton,

That would work as well. Glad you were able to resolve your issue.
