TPS65986: PD controller configuration change not working using TPS6598x Utilities GUI application

Hi Sir,

I have brought Aardvark tool to configure my PD controller " TPS65986 on evaluation board of TUSB664 to disable " Multifunction Preferred " function bit using TPS6598x Utilities GUI. But here unable change registers / even its not detecting the board i feel .

Note : In system device manager Aardvark is detecting under USB devices" Total Phase Aardvark I2C/SPI Host Adapter "

Procedure i used :

1. Connected Aardvark tool SPI/I2C cable to TUSB546EVM J7 Connector

2. TUSB546EVM connected to USB Type C Cable for power ( power LEDs are glowing in TUSB546EVM device )

3. Aardvark USB cable is connected to PC and installed the USB driver .

4. Installed application TPS6598x Utilities GUI

5. Open TPS6598x Utilities GUI and checking but its not detecting .

Please help here any other settings im missing here ?

Tried I2C scanner button and its not working its showing " Beginning scan " always

My device is " TUSB564RNQEVM" SL No : 1243591 ( PD Controller TPS65986)

Hi Sheshumurthy,

I am not familiar with the TUSB546EVM but the problem sounds like you are unable to connect to I2C. I would suggest tracing the I2C lines on the schematic and making sure you have all the correct I2C lines connected from the Aardvark header to the TPS65986. I would also suggest doing the same for the SPI lines. It sounds like they are simply disconnected.

Hi Sir ,

I have downloaded use guide from TI web site and in that provided all the boards details are different then which i have : link: www.ti.com/.../sllu279a.pdf

As you suggested to check on schematic for I2C line i need proper matching user guide for my board which i got from TI .

Picture of both boards and there few components and parts are different and in different place .

Hi Sheshmurthy,

I would suggest asking a new question with TUSB564EVM as the past number to help resolve this discrepancy as the TPS65986 team did not develop that EVM.

The TUSB564EVM was revised, please use the attached guide. The User's Guide will soon be updated and posted online. As Eric mentioned, you can open a different thread if this does not resolve the issue.
