TUSB8041: Recommendation of USB3.0 Hub scheme

Part Number: TUSB8041

I am going to use TUSB8041 for 1 upstream USB3.0 and 4 downstream USB3.0 ports. I need to let this chip can also communicate with main MCU. How can I do that? Can I use Pin37/38 (SCL/SDA) as I2C port to communicate with main MCU? I knew I can use one of USB port via a USB-I2C interface chip for the communication, but the system requires total 5 USB ports, so I have to use all 5 USB ports for that function. Do you have other IC which can use for more than 5 USB3.0 ports?

Thanks!

  • Hi Jack,

What kind of communication is needed between the hub and the MCU? The TUSB8041 is a state machine based hub, so it is only configured at reset. There is no on the fly configuration or status registers available. TI does not have a USB 3.0 hub with more than 4 exposed ports, if more than 4 ports are needed most customer use tiered hubs.
